Bayswater MP Heidi Victoria has expressed her outrage at the Andrews Labor Government’s decision to demolish Wantirna Heights Primary School and sell the site.

In response to a question Ms Victoria asked in Parliament, a government Minister declined an invitation to visit the site and said “The buildings have been marked for demolition to eliminate anti-social behavior around the site”, and “The site is now being prepared for public sale”.

The buildings had been kept in good order until 2015. Problems have emerged as crime has soared across the State.

Ms Victoria said this was an insane repetition of history.

“Instead of using this site and its solid buildings for community purposes, Labor are going to spend a fortune to put a bulldozer through it, just like they did at the old Mount View campus in Boronia,” Ms Victoria said.

“These assets belong to each and every Victorian and we should all be outraged at this deliberate waste.

“The Knox University of the Third Age (U3A) is bursting at the seams with eager to learn over 50 year olds. Instead of providing them these ideal buildings, the Government is going to leave the U3A where they are.

“Tax-payers will pay for the demolition, then the community will eventually have to pay for a new site and for new buildings to be built. It is the same insane approach as Labor’s decision to pay more than $1.2 billion not to build East West Link,” Ms Victoria said.
