Knox has seen a dramatic increase in crime by nearly 20% in one year. In Maroondah, the figures are no better, with crime up 18.4%. The latest crime figures released last week are appalling right across the state, with an increase of 20% in crime in Victoria in the past two years under the Andrews Government.

In our own backyard, the figures are quite distressing with an upward trend in all suburbs. The Basin saw a staggering increase in crime of 76% in just one year. Bayswater saw an increase of 18.5%, Boronia 32.6%, Heathmont 16.3% and in Wantirna 14.8%.

The residents of the Bayswater district are not immune to the crime spree plaguing Victoria. Frequent reports of car jackings, aggravated burglaries and assaults are a common reminder of the horrors gripping our state.

Police are under-resourced and continue to do their job with little support or regard from the Police Minister or Daniel Andrews.

Daniel Andrews’ cuts to front line police are now showing a direct cause and effect scenario.

Daniel Andrews has nowhere to hide from these crime statistics and Victorians have had enough.

My recent community survey on the proposed Liberal Coalition changes to Bail Laws has seen an overwhelming response from constituents, who are universally sick and tired of being the victims of Daniel Andrews’ incompetence and neglect.

I will be holding a community crime forum on the 28th March at the Knox Community Arts Centre (6.45 registration), and I encourage local residents to come along and hear from crime prevention specialists, as well as the Shadow Attorney General, John Pesutto MP.
