In one of the more extraordinary responses ever seen in Parliament, Labor Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan has told commuters who can’t find parking at Heathmont Station to drive to Ferntree Gully Station instead!

In Parliament in August, Bayswater District MP Heidi Victoria asked the Minister a series of questions about the number of people using Heathmont Station.

The Minister’s reply did not provide the figures requested, suggesting she doesn’t know, but the response did say: “215 new car parking spaces will be built at Ferntree Gully station and these will help alleviate demand at Heathmont station.”

Google Maps suggests it is a 10.2km, 24 minute drive from Heathmont to Ferntree Gully Station in the morning peak. Then the train takes another 9 minutes to get back to Heathmont.

Comments attributable to Member for Bayswater, Heidi Victoria:

“Labor are completely out of touch with suburban Melbourne. Nobody is going to add 33 minutes to the start and end of their daily commute.

“Labor are so busy running rorts, watching crime skyrocket, indoctrinating kids and denigrating CFA volunteers that they aren’t interested in resolving real issues like the lack of parking at suburban stations.
