Bayswater MP Heidi Victoria has condemned the Andrews Labor Government for another 4.4% increase in crime in Maroondah in the past year, including an extraordinary 50% jump in robbery.

The surge means crime in Maroondah has now risen an unprecedented 17.4% since Labor came to government in 2014. Crime fell under the Napthine Government, and is currently at record lows and falling in NSW, but Victoria is experiencing record highs.

Public crime statistics reveal that for the year ending June 2017 there were 8,933 offences reported in Maroondah compared to 8,559 a year ago, an increase of 384 more offences in just one year. There were 7,607 offences for the year ended December 2014.

Leading the surge is an 18.7% increase in Bayswater North.

“Crime in Maroondah has increased 4.4% in the last year taking the total under the Andrews Labor Government to 17.4%. This isn’t a crime wave, this is a crime tsunami,” Ms Victoria said.

The rise follows a 15.5% surge in theft, a 21.4% spike in deception, 11.6% increase in stalking and a 5% jump in property damage.

“Daniel Andrews must stand up for Maroondah and wage a war on crime rather than his other personal wars.

“Our justice system is in crisis under Premier Andrews due to a failure to address causes of crime, weaker sentencing, bail laws and Police numbers,” Ms Victoria said.
