Bayswater MP Heidi Victoria has warned the Knox community to remain vigilant, with the latest crime statistics showing that crime has increased 18.3% in Knox since Daniel Andrews was elected.

Of most concern, crime in Boronia was still trending up at an unacceptable 8.2% for the year – one of the worst results in the State. Knox has seen the fifth biggest crime jump under the Labor Government amongst metropolitan council areas.

In the past year, Knox has seen a 30.2% rise in robberies, a 28.8% jump in drug possession, a 22% increase in drug manufacturing, a 14.3% spike in drug dealing, a 4.3% increase in assault, and a jump from 1 blackmail case to 8.

Public crime statistics reveal that for the year ending December 2017 there were 11,289 offences reported in Knox compared to 9,543 offences for the year ended December 2014.

Crime fell under the Napthine Government, and is currently at record lows and falling in NSW, but Victoria is lagging well behind.

Since Labor came to office in 2014, crime is up a frightening 28.8% in 3152, 11.6% in 3153, an extraordinary 47.1% in 3154 and a ridiculous 50.5% in 3155.

Bayswater MP Heidi Victoria said the latest figures were deplorable.

“Our justice system remains in crisis under Premier Andrews due to a failure to address causes of crime, weaker sentencing, bail laws and Police numbers,” Ms Victoria said.

“While the government has no plan, the Liberals have a plan that includes abolishing concurrent sentences for violent offenders on bail and parole, introducing mandatory minimum sentences, a three point plan to toughen bail, a Sex Offenders Public Register, more police, re-opening the police stations that Daniel Andrews closed, and opening police shopfronts in shopping centres including Knox and Eastland.”
