Bayswater MP Heidi Victoria says the latest crime statistics prove the outer east is being neglected by the Andrews Labor Government, with many Maroondah suburbs having amongst Victoria’s largest total crime increases over the 3 years since the election.

There is 37.8% more crime in Kilsyth South, 10.6% more in Bayswater North and even Heathmont has seen 3 times as much robbery as there was in December 2014 figures.

Kilsyth South is one of the worst results in the state. It is pushed by a truly deplorable 400% jump in ‘other crimes against the person’. Arson has doubled and theft is up 88%. Drug crime has almost doubled, rising by 90.5%. Property damage is up 57.1, with most of that increase occurring the last year.

In Bayswater North, ‘other crimes against the person’ are up 400%, having doubled in the last year. Drug crime up a staggering 161.5% and stalking is up 60%.

In Heathmont, Robbery has tripled with most of that growth in the last 12 months. ‘Other crimes against the person’ have also tripled, with 84.6% of that growth in the last year. Weapons crime has doubled, and drug crime is up 92.3%.

Ms Heidi Victoria said the latest figures continued to be completely unacceptable.

“Figures like the 37.8% increase in Kilsyth South and tripling of robbery are unprecedented in Victoria’s history. They are outrageous.”

“Our justice system remains in crisis under Premier Andrews due to a lack of effort. Things need to change, which is why the Liberals have listed our first 30 solutions at makevictoriasafe.org.au.”
